San Francisco Early Music Society will present “Emperor of the Moon” on June 6-8, 2025 in Redwood City, Berkeley, and San Francisco.
The pastiche is based on plays in the “Commedia dell’arte” tradition and features satirical science-fiction stories. It will be showcased in collaboration with Nash Baroque and Dance Through Time.
“This is not a reconstruction of a particular production but rather a re-imagining, taking a few liberties while staying true to the spirit and the content that might have been possible in a production of the period,” said Nash Baroque flutist and director, Vicki Melin, per an official press release.
Soprano Bethany Hill will headline the performance, which includes music by Henry Purcell, John Blow, John Eccles, and Gottfried Finger.
The June 6 showcase is set for Carrington Hall in Redwood City, while the following day, audiences can take in the experience at the Live Oak Theater in Berkeley. The final show is set for June 8 at the Gunn Theatre at The Legion of Honor in San Francisco.
