Royal Opera House to Honor Ukraine One Year After Russian Invasion

The Royal Opera House will spotlight the one-year anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine by Russia with a public performance.

The showcase, set for March 16, 2023, will feature the culmination of two months of choral workshops with Ukrainian participants. In sum, there will be over 130 Ukrainian participants in the performance. The Cathedral Choir of Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of the Holy Family and Ukrainians supported the project in London.

“The heroic fortitude of those plagued by the scourge of war inspires us all. With this project we hope to fulfil one of the great promises of art: to create meaning in the face of hardship,” said William Spaulding, Chorus Director at the Royal Opera House, who led the workshops.

In March 2021, the Royal Opera House started a series of fundraising initiatives to support the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal. Part of this initiative included two fundraising performances, including one led by Oksana Lyniv, and a gala featuring Royal Ballet dancers, which have to date raised more than £450,000.
