Plácido Domingo has received the Premio Cappuccilli.

The singer received the award following a performance of “I Due Foscari” at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. The daughter of Piero Cappuccili, Patrizia Cappuccilli, presented Domingo with the award.

The organization noted, “Congratulations to Maestro Plácido Domingo on receiving the prestigious Premio Cappuccilli. The award was presented to Maestro on stage in front of all public after Maestro’s superb performance of ‘I due Foscari’ at Teatro del Maggio in Firenze on May 28, 2022.”

Domingo follows Luca Salsi, who received the award in 2021 at the Teatro alla Scala. This summer, Domingo returns to the Bayerische Staatsoper,  Salzburg Whitsun Festival, and also goes on tour with Angela Gheorghiu in japan.

Piero Cappuccilli was a great Italian operatic baritone who was best known for his interpretations of Verdi roles. He performed at the Metropolitan Opera, Wiener Staatsoper, Royal Opera, Teatro alla Scala, and Paris Opera, among others.
