By David Salazar

The Philadelphia Fringe Festival has announced its programming for the 2021-22 season.

For the purposes of this article, our focus will be on vocal and operatic performances.

First up will be “Sun & Sea,” a performance by Rugilė Barzdžiukaitė, Vaiva Grainytė, and Lina Lapelytė, which will be set on an artificial “beach,” and “is viewed from a mezzanine above and directs our attention to a crowd of swimsuit-clad performers conveying anxieties that range from sunburn to environmental catastrophe.” The work will play on loop for five hours. It received the Golden Lion for best national presentation at the 2019 Venice Biennale.

Performance Date: Sept 30 – Oct 3, 2021

There will also be a performance of “Bon Appétit!” by Julia Child and Lee Hoiby, “How Gilbert and Sullivan got us through lockdown,” and “Our American Experiences” presented by Aurora Classical.
