Opera Southwest to Showcase Boccherini’s ‘Doña Clementina’

Opera Southwest will present “Doña Clementina” this April.

The work by Luigi Boccherini and Ramón de la Cruz, will be sung in Spanish at the National Hispanic Cultural Center-Journal Theatre in Albuquerque.

It stars Teresa Castillo, Alejandra Sandoval, Laurel Semerdjian, Christian Garcia, Carlos Arculeta, and Christina Martos. Darwin Aquino conducts a production directed by Pat Diamond.

The work was originally composed as a zarzuela and had its debut in Madrid in 1799 before disappearing for 150 years; its revival came in Venice in 1951 and has reappeared throughout Europe in subsequent decades.

The opera will get three performances on April 6, 11, and 13, 2025.
