Opera Parallèle To Celebrate ‘Today It Rains’ With Special Events

By Francisco Salazar

Opera Parallèle has announced that it will surround the world premiere performances of “Today It Rains,” a new opera based on a pivotal event in the life of American artist Georgia O’Keeffe, with a variety of fun and inspiring public events including artist talks, book signings, food and drink, a special lobby installation, and more.

Taking “Georgia and the Rebels” as its theme, the performances and events will celebrate some of the Bay Area’s own creative rebels inspired by the spirit of Georgia O’Keeffe. Throughout the events, Opera Parallèle will also honor women who go against the grain, defying expectations and pushing the boundaries of their respective professions. Among the events will be discussion panels, parties, and a closing night reception, among other things.

“Today It Rains” is a work by composer Laura Kaminsky, and librettists Mark Campbell and Kimberly Reed. The opera makes its world premiere on March 28, 2019 with events held between March 27 and 31, 2019 at ZSpace in San Francisco.
