Opéra de Paris Cancels ‘Prince Igor’ Due To Strikes

The Opéra de Paris has canceled the Dec. 17 performance of “Prince Igor” due to the national strike.

In a statement the company noted, “The Paris Opera apologizes for this cancellation. Given the right of employees to declare industrial action up until the scheduled performance time, the Opera was not able to inform the audience earlier and apologizes for this too.”

In addition to “Prince Igor,” the company also canceled its performance of “Raymonda” which was set to be performed at the Palais Garnier.

As a result, the Opéra de Paris will either refund or exchange tickets for future a performance. The performance was set to star Ildar Abdrazakov in the title role, Elena Stikhina, Pavel Černoch, Dmitry Ulyanov, Dimitry Ivashchenko, and Anita Rachvelishvili. “Prince Igor” is scheduled to be performed on Dec. 20 but the company noted that ticket holders should check for updates the day of the performance.

These will mark 26th and 27th performances canceled since protests broke out on Dec. 5, 2019.
