“Black Lodge & BARDO” features David T. Little and Anne Waldman’s opera and Michael Joseph McQuilken’s screenplay. Timur and the Dime Museum perform. Jennifer Harrison Newman directs.

Works & Process at the Guggenheim offers a preview of the return of “VOX: American Voices Opera Lab.” Members of the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program perform.

Spring
“VOX: American Voices Opera Lab” is held. Ted Sperling serves as music director.
Performance Date: April 1, 2027
Kamala Sankaram, André de Quadros, and Beth Morrison’s “You Are Poetry” a multimedia song cycle gets its world premiere. De Quadros is the music director and S. Katy Tucker is the immersive projection designer.

LA Opera and The Wallis present Paola Prestini and Royce Vavrek’s “The Old Man and the Sea.” Karmina Šilec and Mila Henry is the music director.

PROTOTYPE Festival
PROTOTYPE kicks off its 2027 festival season with a special preview event presented in collaboration with National Sawdust and OperaWire. The event features excerpts from “The Old Man and the Sea,” “The Great Soviet Bucket,” and “VISIONS,” along with conversations and video highlights showcasing productions from across the Festival. Beth Morrison and Jennifer Pyron moderate.

Armando Contreras, Measha Brueggergosman-Lee, Rodolfo Girón, Yvette Keong star in the New York Premiere of Paola Prestini and Royce Vavrek’s “The Old Man and the Sea.” Karmina Šilec is the stage director and Mila Henry serves as musical director.

The world premiere of Emel Mathlouthi’s “EMEL: Everywhere We Looked Was Burning” is directed by Jessica Grindstaff.

Timur and Sandra Powers’ “The Great Soviet Bucket” gets its New York premiere. Timur performs alongside pianist Matt Podd, and violinist Yvette Cornelia Holzwarth. Powers directs.

The Trinity Choir performs in “Compline by Candlelight: Arvo Pärt.”

“VISIONS: A Meditation on the Female Muses of Gustav Klimt” is composed and performed by Lacy Rose. Dara Malina directs.

“The Seen and the Unseen: An evening of two visionary chamber operas about women who listen for voices the world cannot yet hear” features a preview of Wang Lu and Deborah Brevoort’s “The Red Thread” conducted by Anthony Cheung and the world premiere of Daniel Zlatkin’s “Hilma.” Mezzo-soprano Catherine Martin performs the title role with the National Sawdust Ensemble directed by Jeffrey Zeigler. Juliana Morales Carreño is the stage director.

Vilma Jää and The Beatbox House perform in Mara Driscoll and Liz Yilmaz’s “Art Bath.”
