Opera Colorado Announces Education Programming

Opera Colorado has announced the Education Programming for the 2021-22 Season.

The company announced that as schools return to in-person, hybrid, and online learning. Opera Colorado will bring programs to schools, families, and community organizations.

Highlights will include two touring productions of abridged classics created especially for schools, a live or digital program focused on early literacy through the arts, in-school workshops designed to integrate opera into the established curriculum, and Brain Breaks, a series of short, digital activities that get students up, moving, and learning about music and the arts.

The program begins with “Opera on Tour: The Barber of Seville” the company’s most popular touring production

The company will also offer “Opera on Tour: The Pirates of Penzance,” a brand-new production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s hilarious farce.

There will also be “Storytime Sessions” which will see artists performing from opera, musical theatre, and more. These 30-minute performances are perfectly suited for students as they take their first venture into the world of opera.

Bizet’s “Carmen” will be presented in an abridged Student Matinee performance is approximately 120 minutes and features content appropriate for student audiences. It will be performed live in the Ellie Caulkins Opera House, featuring the 2021-22 Opera Colorado Artists in Residence and the Opera Colorado Orchestra and Chorus.

The Arias & Ensembles will feature the Opera Colorado Artists in Residence in arias and ensemble pieces from opera, musical theatre, and more. Selections are performed as they would be on stage, but without the use of sets and costumes.

There will be In-School Workshops led by Opera Colorado’s Teaching Artists.

The company will offer Student Dress Rehearsals for its three productions performed at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House.

The Brain Breaks will be part of the Digital Activity Series which are short, interactive sessions designed to get you up, moving, and learning about music and the arts.

Dates: Available on demand

The company will also hold Backstage Workshops where students will get to explore the world backstage at interactive stations created to provide hands-on learning opportunities.
