The showcase, which will take place between August 28- Sept. 2 at the ship Wavertree, is a vignette featuring music by such composers as Anthony Davis, Juliana Hall, Damien Geter, Benjamin Britten, E.M. Forester, John Ireland, and Ralph Vaughan Williams.

Performers include Bernard Holcolm, Zachary James, Chantal Freeman, Carami Hilaire, Karmesha Peake, Elliot Paige, Lindell Carter, Nicholas Davis, Edwin Jhamal David, Matthew Anchel, and Tesia Kwarteng, among others.

Eric Einhorn and Winston Bensons Jr. will co-direct the production, which will be produced in partnership with the South Street Seaport Museum.

“Over the last nine years, On Site Opera has brought iconic New York City spaces to life through opera while partnering with impactful institutions that bring their own elements of culture to our community,” stated General and Artistic Director Eric Einhorn in a press release. “As New York welcomes back live audiences, we are looking forward to partnering with the South Street Seaport Museum and, together with our amazing cast and creative team, amplifying African American voices and stories through the exploration of our country’s tragic past.”
