In addition to the mainstage production, the company will present the world premiere of the youth opera “Shizue: An American Story,” as part of its “Our Oregon” project. Following the world premiere, the work, which relates the story of Shizue Iwatsuki’s journey from Japan to Oregon and the horrors she experienced in the U.S., will go on tour for two-months around the country.

There will also be a workshop of the Portland Opera Commission “Jubilee” by Damien Geter and Lorene Carey. The company will also collaborate with the team behind “The Factotum” on a new project.

Finally, the summer months will see the company present its “Opera a la Cart” program.

“Our new season embodies resilience, beauty, creativity, and emotion—all the elements that make opera one of the most passionate and unique artforms to experience,” noted Sue Dixon, general director, in an official press release. “As we move into a new artistic home, we reflect on our storied past and look forward to our bright future. The pieces this season are chosen to pack an emotional punch and highlight the gamut of operatic experience.”
