By Francisco Salazar

The Canadian Opera Company has announced a cast change for its production of “Medea.”

The company said, “Regrettably, Sondra Radvanovsky has been diagnosed with laryngitis and is unable to perform as Medea on May 9 and 11 as scheduled. The COC is grateful to Italian soprano Chiara Isotton for stepping into the title role for the remainder of the performance run. We send Sondra our best wishes for recovery and thank Chiara for enabling this historic show to go on!”

Isotton was already scheduled to perform on May 15 and 17, 2024. The soprano has performed at the Teatro alla Scala, Metropolitan Opera, Deustche Oper Berlin, Teatro La Fenice, and Teatro Carlo Felice.

She joins a cast that includes Matthew Polenzani, Alfred Walker, Janai Brugger, and Zoie Reams. Lorenzo Passerini conducts Sir David McVicar’s production.
