Obituary: Wlodzimierz Siedlik Passed Away at 61

Conductor Wlodzimierz Siedlik passed away on June 7. He was 61 years old.

Siedlik was born Dec. 1, 1963, in Tarnów, Poland. He graduated from the Academy of Music in Kraków, the Pontifical Academy of Theology in Kraków, and the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz.

From 1990 to 1992, Siedlik served as director of the Paderewski Center in Tarnów-Kąśna Dolna. In 1991, he founded the Tarnów Chamber Orchestra. He also held positions as director of the State Music School Complex in Tarnów, assistant professor at the Liturgical Institute of the John Paul II University in Kraków, and as director and artistic director of the Polish Radio Choir in Kraków. He also conducted the Cantus and Psalmodia choirs, the Kraków Academic Choir of the Jagiellonian University, and the Camerata Iagellonica Choir.

In 1990, Siedlik was named laureate of the National Conducting Competition in Poznań. Other honors include the Gold Cross of Merit on the 75th anniversary of Polish Radio, the Jerzy Kurczewski Award for outstanding achievements in conducting in 2001, and the 2010 Badge of Honor “Meritorious for Polish Culture, among others. Following his death, Siedlik was awarded
the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.

A funeral was held on June 15.
