Obituary: Chilean Tenor Leonardo Navarro Dies at 38

Tenor Leonardo Navarro has died at the age of 38.

The Teatro Municipal de Santiago announced the news noting “We deeply regret the passing of opera singer Leonardo Navarro, who with his voice and talent gave life to various opera characters on this and other national and international stages. We share his family and friends’ sorrow. May he rest in peace.”

The Chilean tenor made his operatic debut in his hometown of Concepción, Chile in 2011 performing Rossini’s “Il Signor Bruschino.” Navarro was later invited to perform at various opera houses in South America in such roles as Almaviva in Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia,” Cassio in Verdi’s “Otello” and Goro in Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly.” He made his Teatro Municipal de Santiago debut in 2016 performing the role of Pong in Puccini’s “Turandot.”

In 2017, Navarro became a member of the Wiener Staatsoper ensemble where he made his debut in Janácek’s “Kátja Kabánova.” He went on to perform in the company’s production of “Le Nozze di Figaro,” “Tosca,” “Nabucco,” “Turandot,” “Ariadne auf Naxosm” and “Lucia di Lammermoor.”
