
New World Symphony Extends Stéphane Denève’s Contract
By Francisco SalazarNew World Symphony (NWS) Board Chair William M. Osborne III has announced the extension of Artistic Director Stéphane Denève’s contract through the 2031–32 season.
In a statement, Osborne said, “Stéphane Denève has brought extraordinary energy, vision and purpose to New World Symphony. Extending his contract underscores our confidence in his ability to deepen the Fellows’ experience, expand our creative horizons, and further anchor the organization as a vital force in Miami’s cultural life.”
Denève added, “Leading the New World Symphony artistically since 2022 has been a source of infinite joy, inspiration, and hope. This extraordinary institution is not only shaping the next generation of musicians, but also redefining what an orchestra can be and mean in our time. I am deeply honored to carry this journey forward for a second five-year term alongside our Fellows, faculty, staff, board, and audiences. Together, we will continue to build upon the spirit of Michael Tilson Thomas’s remarkable legacy, champion excellence, curiosity, and joie de vivre, and keep seeking new ways to connect, create, and share music with the world.”
Denève is Artistic Director of the New World Symphony, Music Director of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, and Principal Guest Conductor of the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic. He previously served as Principal Guest Conductor of The Philadelphia Orchestra, Music Director of the Brussels Philharmonic, Chief Conductor of the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra (SWR) and Music Director of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
