
New World Symphony President & CEO to Retire

The New World Symphony has announced that President and Chief Executive Officer Howard Herring will retire on June 30, 2026.
Herring was appointed in 2001 and has have served in the role for over 25 of the institution’s 38 years.
In a statement, Herring said, “We can be proud of our accomplishments as educators and dreamers who have envisioned a world where classical music speaks broadly through exceptional performance and through digital and community initiatives that have democratized our artform. Our alumni, numbering 1,330, are making a difference in the orchestras, ensembles, faculties and communities where they live and work.”
Throughout his tenure, he has seen operational growth, community engagement, digital innovation, and financial strength. He was also charged with imagining a facility that would support and encourage New World Symphony’s experiential curriculum.

Osborne, Chairman of the Board of Trustees noted, “For a quarter century, Howard Herring has led with imagination, integrity, and an unshakable belief in the power of music to transform lives. Under his leadership, New World Symphony has become a model cultural institution that nurtures exceptional artists, embraces innovation, and welcomes new audiences to classical music.
