New Jersey Symphony to Present Haydn’s ‘Creation’

The New Jersey Symphony will present Haydn’s “Creation” on May 2, 2025.

The showcase, set to take place starting at 8 p.m. at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark, will be conducted by John J. Miller. Soloists include soprano Lorraine Ernest, tenor Theodore Chletsos, and bass-baritone Jorge Ocasio. Joining the Symphony is The Archdiocesan Festival Choir and The Cathedral Choir.

The concert is free to attend.

Haydn’s “Creation” is one of the composer’s most renowned works. It was composted between 1796-98 and its libretto by Gottfried van Swieten draws from Genesis, the book of Psalms, and Milton’s “Paradise Lost.” The first public performance of the work was held in Vienna at the Burgtheater on March 19, 1799.
