
Romanian National Opera Cluj-Napoca to Premiere Gounod’s ‘Roméo et Juliette’
By David SalazarThe Romanian National Opera in Cluj-Napoca will present Gounod’s “Roméo et Juliette” on Oct. 2 and 3, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. in the company’s Main Hall.
George Vîrban sings the role of Roméo opposite Diana Alexe as Juliette. The cast also features Corneliu Huțanu as Frère Laurent, Geani Brad as Mercutio, Cezar Baltag as Tybalt, Cristian Hodrea as Count Capulet, David Pogana as Paris, Ion Stancu as the Duke, and Cristina Tureanu as Stéphano.
The new production is directed and designed by Arnaud Bernard, with musical direction by David Crescenzi. The creative team includes Dragoș Moldovan as assistant set designer, Iulian Dumitraș as assistant director, Pavel Jancik as fight master, Magdy Hawash handling video design, and Elliott Ganga responsible for lighting. Corneliu Felecan serves as chorus master.
The performance is sung in French with Romanian surtitles. Running time ends at approximately 10:00 p.m., including two intervals.
