New Camerata Opera has commissioned a short opera film based on the life of Julie d’Aubigny and has launched an Indiegogo campaign to help finance the project’s production.

The opera film will be written by librettist Lila Palmer with music by Whitney George. The production will be directed by Chloe Treat with Paul Ashey as Assistant Director. Audio for the film will be recorded in August 2019 with the filming set to take place in November 2019.

“NCO’s production will be the first to tell the adventurous story of Julie d’Aubigny through opera, befitting the scope and talent of one of the greatest heroines in history. The company will distribute it for free on its YouTube channel. In this way, NCO intends to spread d’Aubigny’s message worldwide, bringing opera to anyone with a digital screen,” the company revealed in a press release.
