Musikverein Wien Could Open in June

The Musikverein Wien has announced it may open in June.

In a statement via social media, intendent Dr. Thomas Angyan noted that the Musikverein was currently preparing a new program that would be announced May 26.

According to regulations the concerts would seat a maximum of 100 people.

The news comes as a surprise as Austria had closed all concert halls until the end of June. However, last week the Austrian health minister introduced a plan to reopen the culture sector starting May 29.

According to the plan, indoor and outdoor events with up to 100 visitors will be possible at the end of May. On July 1, events with 250 visitors will be allowed to take place; this includes cinemas. According to the plan, on August 1 events of up to 500 visitors will be allowed and if there is enough security in place, the government will allow events with up to 1,000 visitors to take place.

Since the new plan was announced, the Salzburg Festival announced that it is was looking to re-imagine its 2020 festival, while the Bregenz Festival canceled its summer edition.
