
Music Before 1800 to Present U.S. Premiere of ‘Death of Gesualdo’ in 2026
By David SalazarMusic Before 1800 will present the U.S. premiere of “Death of Gesualdo” on Friday, Feb. 13, 2026 at 7:30 p.m. at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine.
The theatrical concert explores the life and music of Carlo Gesualdo, the Renaissance composer notorious for murdering his wife and celebrated for chromatic writing far ahead of its time.
The program marks a new collaboration between creator and director Bill Barclay and The Gesualdo Six. The creative team features Olivier Award–winning choreographer Will Tuckett and is conducted by Owain Park. Dancers include Doria Bramante, Thomas Brazzle, Kristin Wold, Kat Humes, Ryan Winkles, and Markus Weinfurter.
The production is co-commissioned by St Martin-in-the-Fields, the National Centre for Early Music in York, and Music Before 1800 in New York.
