On Dec. 10, composer Jacob Mühlrad’s new piece was given its world premiere at the Nobel Prize banquet.
Along with the premiere of Mühlrad’s marimba solo,”Superposition,” his other works for tenor, mixed choir, and strings were performed.
In a press release Mühlrad is quoted saying, “For me, music serves as a bridge between people, cultures and worlds. The concept I have used is inspired by the spirit of Nobel, where research, literature and humanism come together. My newly composed work to be performed, “Superposition,” is influenced by quantum physics. I am also both happy and grateful to have managed to bring together such a talented group for the occasion.”
Mühlrad’s compositions have been performed by the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Cappella San Francisco, and the Swedish Radio Choir, among others. His 2022 choir piece, “Ay Li Lu,” was inspired by a Jiddisch lullaby and was co-commissioned by the Vancouver Chamber Choir, Vox Chamber Choir in Pretoria, SYC Ensemble Singers in Singapore, and Kampin Laulu in Helsink.
