The Atlanta Opera is set to present Verdi’s “Macbeth.”

The opera is set to be presented at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre from March 1 to March 9, 2025, and will star Michael Mayes in the title role and Sara Gartland as Lady Macbeth. The production will also star Morris Robinson as Banquo and Won Whi Choi appears as Macduff.

Iván López-Reynoso will conduct the production by Tomer Zvulun.

In a statement, Zvulun said, “Macbeth has not been seen in Atlanta for over 25 years and it is high time we brought it back. Verdi’s opera is a real theatrical event that requires a powerhouse group of singer-actors who will bring the intense drama, not only the music, to life. This is an exceptional cast, and I cannot wait to start rehearsals with them. Macbeth is truly grand opera, which offers a musical challenge to any company. The Atlanta Opera’s excellent orchestra and chorus are both ready for the challenge, and I look forward to Ivan Lopez-Reynoso’s debut on the TAO podium.”

This production will feature an adaptation by Steven Kemp of a set fashioned after Shakespeare’s Globe Theater and costumes designed by Robert Israel.
