Stefan Vinke, Barry Banks, Michael Mayes & Meigui Zhang Lead Atlanta Opera’s 2024-25 Season

Discoveries Series: The Atlanta Opera immersive “Bohème Project”
Following the present season’s traditional production of Puccini’s “La bohème,” in September the Atlanta Opera Discoveries series continues the “Bohème Project” with two immersive productions at Pullman Yards. Produced by Tomer Zvulun with Ukranian-Israeli American designer, director, and multimedia artist Vita Tzykun, the Discoveries series “Bohème Project” comprises repertory performances of a modern-day “La bohème” with the COVID-19 pandemic in place of tuberculosis with the Broadway show it inspired, Jonathan Larson’s “Rent,” which updated Puccini’s story of friendship, passion, and art by setting it amid the 1990’s HIV/AIDS crisis. Both performed on the same set, with the action taking place in and around the seated audience, the productions will feature different casts and musical forces and will alternate nights for most of the run.
Performance Dates: Sept. 22 and 29, 2024 the two works will be performed back-to-back.
The Mainstage Operas: the hero’s journey
The Atlanta Opera’s mainstage season opens with Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” directed by Tomer Zvulun. Santiago Ballerini stars as Tamino alongside Meigui Zhang as Pamina, Luke Sutliff as Papageno, Peixin Chen as Sarastro, Barry Banks as Monostatos, and Rainelle Krause as the Queen of the Night.
Performance Dates: Nov. 5-10, 2024
Michael Mayes stars in Giuseppe Verdi’s “Macbeth” with Sara Gartland and Won Whi Choi.
Performance Dates: March 1-9, 2025
The season will end with Händel’s “Semele” starring soprano Lauren Snouffer.
Performance Dates: June 7-15, 2025
Siegfried – Third in The Atlanta Opera’s “Ring Cycle”
Stefan Vinke stars in the title role of Wagner’s Siegfried” in Tomer Zvulun’s new production. He is joined by Greer Grimsley, Zachary Nelson, Barry Banks, Lise Lindstrom, and Lindsay Ammann. The production will include scenic and projections designer Erhard Rom, and lighting designer Robert Wierzel, with costumes by European Opera Prize-winner Mattie Ullrich.
Performance Dates: April 26-May 4, 2025
