Texas Young Artists awarded mezzo-soprano Stephanie Doche a total of $10,000 at its Finalists’ Concert & Awards presentation.

Doche won the grand prize and gold medal in voice for her performances of Handel’s ‘Dopo notte atra e funesta’ from “Ariodante” and ‘Sein wir wieder gut’ from “Ariadne auf Naxos” by R. Strauss.

Bass William Guanbo Su received a silver medal in the vocal category.

Texas Young Artists’ artistic director Emelyne Bingham saw a record number of applicants this year. Of the 91 applicants, 78 qualified to compete in the preliminary rounds. A total of $40,000 was given out to the competition winners, along with performance and coaching opportunities. Other categories included piano, strings, winds, brass, percussion, harp, and guitar.

Susie Moore Pokorski, the president/CEO of the organization, said in an official press statement, “Our concert and gala were especially poignant this year because we took time to appreciate how far YTA has come while getting a glimpse of the future: gifted young artists who are just beginning their careers as classical musicians.”
