Marcelle McGuirk & Eugenia Forteza to Headline ‘Sonidos Latinos’

By Afton Markay

Soprano Marcelle McGuirk and mezzo-soprano Eugenia Forteza are set to headline two performances of “Sonidos Latinos.”

The program features classical songs from Latin America and the Caribbean – including rarely performed gems from Puerto Rico, Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, and Mexico. Brazilian pianist Gabriel Rebolla joins the singers in the exploration of the rich musical heritage of the Latine/Hispanic cultures.

The first concert is presented by Esperanza Arts Center in partnership with Prismatic Arts Ensemble and will take place at Teatro Esperanza in Philadelphia on Oct. 10, at 7 p.m.  The next day, Oct. 11, the program will be presented  by Concerts in Fairmount at Olivet Covenant Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, at 5 p.m.

Forteza recently performed in productions of “Le Nozze di Figaro” and “The Tin Angel” with Teatro Grattacielo and is slated to appear in concerts with Spotlight Artists and Teatro Grattacielo in New York City this October.

McGuirk is the co-founder of Prismatic Arts Ensemble. Moreover, she is currently working on “Songs of mi Gente,” a solo project that aims to spread awareness about music by Puerto Rican composers.
