The Royal Ballet and Opera has released a new operatic cover of Rosalía’s hit track “Berghain,” featuring soprano Jacquelyn Stucker, conductor-violinist Stefano Montanari, and pianist Hannah Quinn.

The cover was filmed at the Royal Opera House.

“Berghain” was originally featured on Rosalía’s album “Lux” and includes guest vocals by Björk and blends orchestral textures with pop and operatic influences. The album showcases Rosalía performing in 13 languages, including Italian, German, Ukrainian, and Spanish—reflecting the multilingual repertoire standard to operatic singers.

Since the release of “Lux” on Nov. 7, the Royal Ballet and Opera has reported a 19 percent increase in website traffic compared to the same period last year, alongside a 140 percent rise in Google searches for its recent production of “The Makropulos Case.”

“Opera has always been an inspiration for other genres of music and it has been amazing to explore Rosalía’s song in the operatic tradition,” Stucker said per an official press release. “In fact, there is so much in ‘Berghain’ that mirrors the baroque music in Händel’s ‘Ariodante’ that we’re rehearsing at the moment: the drama, the virtuosic violin riffs, the improvisation as an ensemble, the conductor leading from the violin and the constant movement of the music. I hope people enjoy this cover as much as we enjoyed recording it – come and see us perform ‘Ariodante’ on the Royal Opera House stage!”

“Berghain,” released Oct. 27, continues a broader trend of opera and classical music intersecting with mainstream pop, following recent collaborations by artists such as Dev Hynes and Caroline Polachek, who appears in “Last Days” at The Royal Opera from Dec. 5–Jan. 3.
