Mannes Opera Announces 2026-27 Season

By Francisco Salazar

The Mannes Opera hs announced its 2026-27 season.

Per an official press release, Mannes Opera Music Director Cris Frisco said, “I’m excited for a season that connects the stories we’ve been telling through music for over 400 years. Whether we’re wrestling with memory, loss, faith, or family, it’s amazing how the core human experience hasn’t changed over the centuries. We’re really looking at how we tell these stories at Mannes Opera. From a site-specific ‘Suor Angelica’ to an immersive retelling of the Orpheus myth, we want to show how vital this art form is to our community. I’m particularly thrilled about our production of Menotti’s ‘The Saint of Bleecker Street’ —missing from the New York stage for far too long. Originally written for Broadway, it’s a compelling link between traditional 19th-century opera and contemporary American work. I’m grateful that our students get to be right in the room for the creation and workshop of new pieces. We are truly living in a golden age of American opera, and our students are an integral part of shaping its future.”

Puccini’s “Suor Angelica” will be conducted by Cris Frisco and directed by Mikhaela Mahony. The production will be performed at Our Lady of Good Counsel.
