Malmö Opera has announced its 2023-24 season.

The first opera on the slate is “Don Giovanni.” Wolfgang Wengentroth conducts a production by Paul-Émile Fourny. The opera stars Jacques Imbrailo, Henning von Schulman, Joel Annmo, Matilda Sterby, Rachael Wilson, Linnea Nordenback, Viktoria Karlsson, Taras Schtonda, and Nikoli Elsberg.

Performance Dates: Oct. 7 – Dec. 17, 2023

David Niemann conducts Mozart’s “Requiem.” Örjan Andersson choreographs the production.

Performance Dates: Oct. 28 – Nov. 11, 2023 

Rusty Magee and Billy Aronson’s “Flurry Tale” will be directed by Marie Parker Shaw. The work stars Anton Ljungqvist, Annie Fredriksson, Klara Ek, Rickard Söderberg, and Magnus Lindegård.

Performance Dates: Dec. 16, 2023 – Feb. 4, 2024

Sofia Jupither directs a production of “Turandot” starring Anne Derouard, Daniel Johansson, Solen Mainguené-Grünkorn, Kine Sandtrø, and Mariano Buccino.

Performance Dates: Feb. 3 – April 21, 2024

Next up is Jonas Forssell and Ariel Dorfman’s “Death and the Maiden.” Tobias Theorell conducts a production starring Julia Sporsén, Fredrik Zetterström, and Dimitris Paksoglou.

Performance Dates: May 18 – June 9, 2024

Malmö on Tour 

The company will also go on tour, kicking things off with a presentation showcasing tenor Fredrik Hagerberg.

Performance Date: August 17 – Sept. 17, 2023

That will be followed up by Ture Rangstruom and August Strindberg’s “Kronbruden,” starring Ella Morin, Fabian Düberg, Linnea Andreassen, Linnea Andreassen, and Maria Streijffert. Elena Jordan conducts a production by Åsa Kalmér.

Performance Date: Sept. 9 – Dec. 3, 202

Malmö Opera on a Truck will also present an opera to be determined.

Performance Date: May 31 – June 18, 2024

 Operaverkstan

The company will present a production of “Sherlock and the Singer” by Lars Ljungberg and Maria Sundqvist. Annika Bjelk conducts and Johan Hwatz directs. The opera stars Tor Lind, Elin Eriksson, Ola Heinpalu, and Theodor Uggla.

Performance Date: Nov. 4 – Dec. 3, 2023

Then comes the world premiere of “Nalle Havsöga” by Tania Naranjo and Sofia Westerlund. Hillevi Björnsson directs.

Performance Date: April 6 – May 4, 2024
