By Francisco Salazar

The Maggio Musicale Fiorentino has announced a cast change for “Alcina.”

The company said that Cecilia Bartoli will not be able to sing on the Oct. 20 performance due to laryngitis. As a result, Marie Lys will sing the title role.

Lys is the first prize winner of the Competition for Baroque Opera Cesti 2018 and of the Concours International de Belcanto Vincenzo Bellini 2017. She is also the recipient of the Audience Prizes at the Concours de chant de Toulouse 2019 and at the London Handel Singing Competition 2016. Her repertoire includes baroque, Mozart, Bellini, and J. Strauss.

Lys is set to join a cast that includes Carlo Vistoli, Lucía Martín Cartón, Kristina Hammarström, Petr Nekoranec, and Riccardo Novaro. Gianluca Capuano conducts the production by Damiano Michieletto.

Bartoli returns for the performances on Oct. 22.
