New York City Labor Chorus to Present Concert for ‘Peace & Justice’

By Francisco Salazar

The New York City Labor Chorus conducted by Jana Ballard is set to perform a May event at St. Mark’s Church.

The concert will be held on May 5 with a suggested donation of 25 dollars and its theme will be “Peace and Justice.”

The chorus, founded in 1991, promotes union solidarity and social justice through song. The ensemble’s repertoire tells the story of labor’s history and ongoing struggles, drawing on gospel, jazz, classical, and folk traditions.

Over the years the chorus has performed at the 1992 Democratic National Convention, Carnegie Hall, Madison Square Garden, the United Nations, and worldwide.
