The London Philharmonic Orchestra has announced that Chief Conductor Edward Gardner has extended his contract with the orchestra for two years.

In a statement Gardner said, “My relationship with the incredible musicians within the Orchestra is a very special one, growing with each project, and I feel so privileged to be able to tap into their huge passion and commitment, enabling us to produce music-making of the highest quality. I’m really excited about the future possibilities.”

On social media the LPO said, “We’re thrilled that Edward Gardner has extended his contract with the LPO for a further two years, meaning he’ll remain our Principal Conductor until at least 2028! We caught up with Ed to chat about the exciting news, and to find out his LPO best bits.”

This season, Gardner conducts the LPO in concerts in London and Brighton, and on tour in Europe, Asia and North America. He also joins forces with Joyce DiDonato to open the season with performances of Berlioz’s “The Death of Cleopatra” with Barber’s “Medea’s Dance of Vengeance” and Beethoven’s Symphony No.3 Eroica.

In addition to his position with the LPO, Gardner is the Music Director of Den Norske Opera and Ballet, and the Honorary Conductor of the Bergen Philharmonic.
