Lembit Beecher & Oswald Huýnh Named Laureates for Musical Composition by American Academy in Rome

The American Academy in Rome has named the laureates for its residencies.

Among those accepted for musical composition, Lembit Beecher was awarded the Samuel Barber Rome Prize for his “A Book of Falsehoods.”

Meanwhile, Oswald Huýnh was named as laureate of the Frederic A. Juilliard | Walter Damrosch Rome Prize in Musical Composition.

The two are among 35 recipients who will get a chance to reside at the Academy for five to 10 months.

“I am incredibly honored and humbled to receive the Frederic A Juilliard | Walter Damrosch Rome Prize,” Huýnh, who was Composer-in-Residence with Louisville Orchestra and Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra, said per an official press release. “It is an accolade I never thought would be possible for me. In addition to having the luxury to completely focus on my music, I am looking forward to the potential interdisciplinary collaborations with my fellow artists and scholars in Rome.
