Lawrence Brownlee, Olga Peretyako & Serena Farnocchia Headline Opera Royal De Wallonie’s 2018-19 Season

The Opera Royal del Wallonie-Liege has announced its 2018-19 season featuring five new productions and nine showcases in total.

The season contains a number of rarely performed works in addition to repertoire staples featuring many prominent and rising stars. Here is a look.

Productions 

Stefano Vizioli directs Verdi’s “Il Trovatore” with Fabio Sartori in the title role and Violetta Urmana as Azucena. Daniel Oren conducts the opera, which will also star Yolanda Auyanet and Mario Cassi rounding the cast.

Performance Dates: Sept. 16-28, 2018

Cimarosa’s “Il Matrimonio Segretto” will be directed by Stefano Mazzonis di Pralafera and conducted by Ayrton Desimpelaere. Mario Cassi, Céline Mellon, and Matteo Falcier star.

Performance Dates: Oct. 19-27, 2018

Verdi’s Requiem will be showcased for two performances with Speranza Scapucci conducting Roberto Scandiuzzi, Serena Farnocchia, Marc Laho, and Sabrina Willett.

Performance Dates: Oct. 26-28, 2018

Virigina Tola headlines Puccini’s “Tosca” with Aquiles Machado and Marco Vratogna. Gianluigi Gelmetti conducts Claire Servais’s production. Tiziana Caruso and Vincenzo Costanzo share the run.

Performance Dates: Nov. 20-Dec. 2, 2018

Antonino Siragusa, Jodie Devos, Jose Maria Lo Monaco and Enrico Marabelli star in Rossini’s comic masterpiece “Le Comte Ory.” Jordi Bernàcer conducts Denis Podalydès production. 

Performance Dates: Dec. 21, 2018-Jan. 2, 2019

Marc Laho takes on the title role of Gounod’s “Faust” with Ildebrando d’Arcangelo and  Anne-Catherine Gillet. Patrick Davin conducts Stefano Poda’s new production.

Performance Dates: Jan. 23-Feb. 2, 2019

Verdi’s “Aida” gets a new production with Serena Farnocchia, Nino Surguladze, Marianne Cornetti, Lionel Lhote, and Gianluca Terranova. Speranza Scappucci conducts the new production, which is set to be directed by Stefano Mazzonis di Pralafera.

Performance Dates: Feb. 26-March 14, 2019 

Olga Peretyatko-Mariotti sings the title role in Donizetti’s “Anna Bolena” with Sofia Soloviy, Celso Albelo, and Marko Mimica. Giampaolo Bisanti conducts Stefano Mazzoni’s new production. Elaine Alvarez also performs the title role.

Performance Dates: April 9-20, 2019

Patrizia Ciofi and Leonardo Cortelazzi showcase their talents in Mozart’s “La Clemenza di Tito.” Anna Bonitatibus and Cecilia Molinari also appear in the new production by Julien Lubek. Thomas Rösner conducts.

Performance Dates: May 15-24, 2019

Bellini’s “I Puritani” closes the season with Speranza Scapucci conducting Lawrence Brownlee, Zuzana Markova, Mario Cassi, and Marco Spotti. Vincent Boussard directs new production.

June 16-28, 2019

In Concert

The season will also include numerous concerts such as an opening night evening of opera and a concert with Joyce DiDonato conducted by Paolo Arrivabeni. Leo Nucci, Marco Spotti, and Sonya Yoncheva will also give concerts at the theater.

Opera Jeune Public

The section will offer three operas for the family including Pauline Viardot’s “Cendrillon,” John Adams’ “I was Looking at the Ceiling and then I saw the Sky,” and “Don Quichotte.”
