The Los Angeles Philharmonic will present the U.S. Premiere of “Last Days,” Oliver Leith and Matt Copson’s opera based on Gus van Sant’s 2005 film of the same name.

The opera, which premiered at the Royal Opera House in 2022, follows a fictional account based on the death of Kurt Cobain. Agathe Rousselle plays Blake, who represents Cobain. He is joined on stage by Arnold Livingston Geis, Kathryn Shuman, Mimi Doulton, Patricia Auchterlonie, Henry Jenkinson, Edmund Danon, and Isaiah Musik-Ayala. The LA Phil New Music Group and chamber duo made up of percussionist George Barton and pianist Siwan Rhys provide accompaniment.

Thomas Adès leads the new opera on Feb. 6, at Walt Disney Concert Hall in part the Green Umbrella series.

Prior to the stage production, a free screening of the film and post show conversation between Van Sant and Copson will take place at Vidiots Foundation on Jan. 25.
