‘Titane’s’ Agathe Rousselle to Star in Royal Opera House’s ‘Last Days’

The Royal Opera House has announced the casting for “Last Days,” which will bow at the Linbury Theatre on Oct. 7 – 11, 2022.

The opera, which is based on the 2005 film by Gus Van Sant, was adapted into a three act opera by composer Oliver Leith and librettist Matt Copson. The work will be directed by Anna Morrissey and Copson. Jack Sheen conducts. It will feature light design by Prema Metha and set design by Grace Smart.

“Everything in the world of ‘Last Days’ is musical – from cereal bowls to bin bags – except for Blake, our lead, who simply mumbles. The music mumbles and murmurs too in a bittersweet haze. The pit score is written for my long-time collaborators, 12 Ensemble (strings), George Barton (percussion) and Siwan Rhys (piano/synthesiser), together creating a very particular quality – trying to make the opera sound like it might look,” Leith said in a press statement.

The production will star actress Agathe Rousselle of “Titane” in a speaking role. She will be joined by sopranos Patricia Auchterlonie and Mimi Doulton, mezzo soprano Kate Howden, tenor Seumas Begg, bass Sion Goronwy, baritone Edmund Danon, and actor Henry Jenkinson.
