Komische Oper Berlin has announced that it has officially canceled all performances until Dec. 22, 2020. However, according to a statement on the company’s official website, it is very unlikely that performances will resume until February 2021.

Komische Oper Berlin has brought such an estimate based on extensive talks with Berlin’s Senator for Culture and Europe Dr. Klaus Lederer. For that reason, the opera house has disabled further ticket purchases until Jan. 29, 2021.

The opera house has also stated that it is working on a new program for the rest of the season. The company will also offer free streams of Massenet’s “Cendrillon”, Offenbach’s “The Tales of Hoffman” and Handel’s “Semele” on the OperaVision platform.

The Komische Oper Berlin is the latest company to announces changes following the German government’s lockdown extension. According to new regulations, the country will be in lockdown until Dec. 20.
