Karen Gardeazabal Headlines Bellas Artes’ ‘Montezuma’
By Francisco SalazarSoprano Karen Gardeazabal is set to make her Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City on Sept. 23, 2021.
The soprano will sing the “Montezuma” by Carl Heinrich Graun under Iván López Reynoso. It will be the soprano’s return to her home country since her tour in 2019 with Javier Camarena where she sang in Guadalajara, Monterrey, and Guanajuato.
In a press release about her upcoming role, Gardeazabal said, “I am very happy that even though the situation is very difficult around the world, I am fortunate to collaborate on this production. I am very happy to be working with many friends in my home and especially happy to finally make my debut in this theater where I have always wanted to sing since the Carlo Morelli competition ten years ago.”
Gardeazabal will join a cast that includes Guadalupe Paz in the title role, María Caballero, Akemi Endo, Arisbé de la Barrera, Jesús León, and Enrique Guzmán. Ruby Tagle directs the production.
