St. Olaf Choir To Tour South Africa

The St. Olaf Choir has announced its first ever South African tour.

Dr. Anton Armstrong leads seven concerts and numerous choir collaborations and workshops from May 30 through June 14, throughout South Africa. The St. Olaf Choir will present a range of American and world music, choral standards, hymns, African-American Spirituals, folk songs, and the music of South African and living composers.

The first concert takes place at the University of Pretoria, with the TUKS Camerata, conducted by Dr. Michael Barrett. Once in Johannesburg the choir will perform with the Quava Vocal Group, conducted by Sabelo Mthembu. The Holy Cross Anglican Church in Soweto host the third concert. Next, the St. Olaf Choir performs alongside the Drakensberg Boys Choir School and at the University of Stellenbosch with Amici de Lumine, conducted by Michaelangelo Cloete. Closing out the tour are two concerts in Capetown – the first with the University of Cape Town Choir, conducted by Karen Schofield-Nel and finally with the South African Youth Choir, conducted by Phil Robinson.

This tour is arranged by Classical Movements, a concert tour company for orchestras and choirs.
