Josep Palet International Singing Competition Announces Schedule & Jury for 2026 Edition

The Josep Palet International Singing Competition has announced its schedule and jury for its 2026 edition.

The competition is slated for March 21–22, 2026, in Martorell (Barcelona) and the preliminary jury features Pol Avinyó, Assistant to the Artistic Director at the Gran Teatre del Liceu (Barcelona); Renzo de Marco, Assistant to the Artistic Director at Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía (Valencia); and mezzo-soprano Silvia Tro Santafé, with Carmen Valero as Jury Secretary.

The semifinal and final rounds will be evaluated by Julien Benhamou, Director of Production and Dissemination at Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris and Casting Consultant for both the Metropolitan Opera and the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence; Gabriele Donà, Operndirektor of Cologne Opera and Casting Director and Artistic Coordinator of the Donizetti Opera Festival (Bergamo); soprano Mirna Lacambra, Honorary President of Fundació Òpera a Catalunya; Elena Rizzo, Artistic Secretary and Casting Director at Teatro Petruzzelli (Bari); Christina Scheppelmann, General and Artistic Director of Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie (Brussels); and Augusto Techera, Director of Artistic Production at Teatro de la Maestranza (Seville). Jordi Maddaleno will serve as Jury Secretary.

Soprano Mirna Lacambra, who has served on the jury since the competition’s second edition, has been named Honorary President in recognition of her artistic career and her longstanding commitment to young artists.

The event is supported by the Martorell City Council and Juventudes Musicales de Martorell.

The competition, open to singers ages 18 to 35 of any nationality, will award €8,000 in prizes: €5,000 for first place, €2,000 for second place, and €1,000 for third place. Ten special awards will also be given, including performance engagements, certificates, and training opportunities.

The Victoria de los Ángeles Prize, the Joan Cererols Prize, and awards for Audience Prize, Best Performer of Catalan Music, and Best Interpreter of Italian Bel Canto are among the distinctions.

Composer Montserrat Lladó will serve as guest composer, creating a commissioned work on texts by Francesc Pujols. The world premiere will be presented by the First Prize winner as part of the Francesc Pujols Foundation Prize.
