Jonas Kaufmann, Sondra Radvanovsky, Benjamin Bernheim & Anja Harteros Lead Opernhaus Zürich’s 2022-23 Season

The Opernhaus Zürich has announced its 2022-23 season with 12 new productions and numerous revivals.

Premieres

Eric Cutler, Christof Fischesser, Tomasz Konieczny, Katie van Kooten, Patricia Bardon, and Camilla Nylund star in Wagner’s “Die Walküre.” The new production by Andreas Homoki will be conducted by Gianandrea Noseda.

Performance Dates: Sept. 18-Oct. 29, 2022

Offenbach’s “Barkouf” will see Jérémie Rhorer conduct the new production by Max Hopp. Marcel Beekman, Andreas Hörl, Mingjie Lei, Iain Milne, Andrew Owens, Brenda Rae, Rachael Wilson, Siena Licht Miller, and André Jung star.

Performance Dates: Oct. 23-Nov. 22, 2022

Pierangelo Valtinoni’s “Alice im Wunderland” will be conducted by Michael Richter and directed by Nadja Loschk. The cast will include Sandra Hamaoui, Lina Dambrauskaité, Ruben Drole, Gary Martin, Andrei Skliarenko, Valeriy Murga, Oliver Widmer, Omer Kobiljak, Lukas Siebert, Irène Friedli, and Christina Müller.

Performance Dates: Nov. 12, 2022-Jan. 19, 2023

Calixto Bieito directs Cavalli’s “Eliogabalo” with Dmitry Sinkovsky conducting. The opera will star Yuriy Mynenko, Siobhan Stagg, Nadezhda Karyazina, Fatma Said, David Hansen, Sophie Junker, James Way, Mark Milhofer, Daniel Giulianini, and Benjamin Molonfalean.

Performance Dates: Dec. 4, 2022-Jan. 7, 2023

Inga Kalna and Stephen Costello lead Donizetti’s “Roberto Devereux.” The new production by David Alden will also star Konstantin Shushakov and Stéphanie d’Oustrac. Enrique Mazzola conducts.

Performance Dates: Feb. 5-March 17, 2023

Klaus Florian Vogt, Wolfgang Ablinger-Sperrhacke, Tomasz Konieczny, Christopher Purves, David Leigh, Anna Danik, Camilla Nylund, and Rebeca Olvera lead Wagner’s “Siegfried” with Andreas Homoki directing and Gianandrea Noseda conducting.

Performance Dates: March 5-26, 2023

Delibes’ “Lakmé” will be performed in a concert performance Alexander Joel conducting a cast that includes Edgardo Rocha, Björn Bürger, Philippe Sly, Sabine Devieilhe, and Siena Licht Miller.

Performance Dates: April 2-15, 2023

Gounod’s “Roméo et Juliette” will be conducted by Roberto Forés Veses and directed by Ted Huffman. Benjamin Bernheim and Julie Fuchs lead the cast that also includes Svetlina Stoyanova, Yuriy Hadzetskyy, Omer Kobiljak, and Brent Michael Smith.

Mélanie Huber directs Donizetti’s “Viva la mamma” with Adrian Kelly conducting an ensemble cast that includes Anna Aglatova, Pietro Spagnoli, Ambrogio Maestri, Deniz Uzun, Andrew Owens, Adriana Bignagni Lesca, Stanislav Vorobyov, Jungrae Noah Kim, and Fritz Fenne.

Performance Dates: April 14-23, 2023

Markellos Chryssicos conducts Handel’s “Serse” in a new production by Nina Russi. Siena Licht Miller sings the title role with Freya Apffelstaedt, Yewon Han, Chelsea Zurflüh, Benjamin Molonfalean, and Gregory Feldman.

Performance Dates: May 6-17, 2023

George Benjamin’s “Lessons in Love and Violence” will be directed by Evgeny Titov and conducted by Ilan Volkov. Lauri Vasar, Jeanine De Bique, Björn Bürger, and Mark Milhofer star.

Marc Albrecht conducts Sebastian Baumgarten’s new production of “Puccini’s “Turandot.” Sondra Radvanovsky stars in the title role with Wenwei Zhang, Piotr Beczała, and Rosa Feola.
