Cape Town Opera’s production of Georges Bizet’s “Carmen” will screen at Ster-Kinekor cinemas across South Africa beginning August 23.

“Carmen” was filmed during a live performance at Artscape and stars Nonhlanhla Yende in the title role, alongside Lukhanyo Moyake as Don José, Vuvu Mpofu as Micaëla, and Conroy Scott as Escamillo. The production features the Cape Town Opera Vocal Ensemble, the Cape Town Opera Children’s Chorus, and the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Tim Murray.

The production is directed by Steven Stead, with set design by Greg King, costumes by Maritha Visagie, lighting by Faheem Bardien, and choreography by Naoline Quinzin.

Screenings are scheduled for August 23 – 30 and Sept. 1, at cinemas including the V&A Waterfront, Blue Route, and Somerset locations in Cape Town, Garden Route Mall in George, Rosebank Nouveau and Cresta in Johannesburg, Brooklyn in Pretoria, Watercrest in Hillcrest, KwaZulu Natal, and Baywest in Gqeberha.
