The Metropolitan Opera has announced a new pay-per-view series “Met Stars Live in Concert” featuring opera’s greatest stars from around the world.

The concert series, which was announced via a Zoom press conference, will consist of 12 live performances starting on July 18 and running through December.

“This new initiative is intended to create live performance opportunities for our artists and our audiences at a time when they both sorely need it,” said Met Opera General Manager Peter Gelb in a press release. “Although some concert activity is beginning to take place once again in some parts of the world, this is a chance for opera fans to experience their favorite stars in real-time, since it’s going to be a long time before artists and their audiences are fully mobile again.”

The concerts will be directed by Gary Halvorson from a control room in New York City that will connect, via satellite, to multiple cameras on location. Christine Goerke will host all the concerts.

Tickets will cost $20 and the performances will be available on-demand for 12 days following the live event.
