
J’Nai Bridges Headlines The Unsung Collective & NY Philharmonic’s ‘An Unsung Symphony: Simon and Brahms’

The showcase, titled “An Unsung Symphony: Simon and Brahms” will feature mezzo-soprano J’Nai Bridges performing Carlos Simon’s “Songs of Separation.” The work features text by Persian poet Jalāl al-Dīn Muḥammad Rūmī.
Also on the program is Brahms’ “Ein Deutsches Requiem” featuring Brittany Renee and Phillip Bullock.
The Unsung Collective is a Harlem-based Western art music collective that explores and celebrates the stories of the Black experience while sharing the adversities and strengths of people of color. It is the first predominantly Black ensemble to perform regularly at the Mostly Mozart Festival.
This concert is part of the New York Philharmonic’s 2024-25 “Take a Breath” series. The series, which first opened in 2022-23, aims to support mental health and wellness through musical performance. This year’s season will feature the First Baptist Church of Corona join forces with Northwell Health and Harlem’s Mother AME Zion Church.
In addition to the concert, there will be three workshops featuring New York Philharmonic musicians.
