Italian Government Announces Limited Reopening on April 26

The cabinet of Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi has adopted a new decree that will allow limited reopenings in the yellow zones of the country’s COVID-19 color-code system.

The decree only applies to the low risk yellow zones. Theaters and opera houses will be allowed to reopen with a maximum of 50% capacity or a maximum of 500 seats for indoor performances. If the sanitary conditions cannot be complied with, the performances must be canceled.

Per the latest data on the Italian Ministry of Health website from April 19, no region in Italy is currently a yellow zone. The situation however might change with new data which is set to be released on April 23. Per initial data, the regions of Emilia Romagna, Marche, and Veneto might be the first to cross the line to the lower risk yellow zone.

Several Italian theaters have already announced reopenings on April 26, including the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and Teatro la Fenice.

Italy has logged 13,836 new COVID-19 daily cases on April 21, 2021.
