Credo Music Festival Announces New Artistic Director

Credo Music Festival has announced that Metropolitan Opera concertmaster David Chan has been appointed as its new director.

The new season which will mark the company’s 25th anniversary and will see Chan conduct at this year’s festival. However, his tenure will begin at the 2025 festival.

In his new position, Chan will provide “a uniquely meaningful opportunity where I can draw on every facet of my professional life—as conductor, violinist, and teacher—and also fulfill my personal callings to service and ministry.”

In a statement, Credo founder and artistic director Peter Slowik said, “After 25 years of consistent faculty and leadership, the Credo mission will prosper with this summer’s infusion of new energy and vision. While the format has developed to meet a new generation of musical leaders, the ideals and deeply personal nature of Credo’s work remain bedrock strong. David Chan is the perfect leader for this transition and beyond.”

Chan has been concertmaster of the Met for 24 seasons and has also been an artistic partner of Mainly Mozart’s Festival of Orchestras and has conducted the organization’s All-Star Orchestra. He has also conducted the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège, the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Orchestre Dijon Bourgogne.
