Irina Lungu Cancels Opening Night Of ‘Faust’

Irina Lungu canceled opening night of Gounod’s “Faust” at the Royal Opera House.

The soprano announced via social media that due to influenza she was unable to sing. Lungu stated, “Unfortunately I had to cancel my appearance at today’s premiere of Faust at the Royal Opera House due to an influenza with high fever. It was a hard decision and I’m truly disappointed. Thanks for your support. I am planning to be back on stage for the second performance on April 15!”

As a result Mandy Fredrich replaced Lungu. Fredrich has performed at the Teatro alla Scala, Wiener Staatsoper, Semperoper Dresden, Royal Festival Hall, and Bayerische Staatsoper among other.

Lungu was originally scheduled to perform the final two performances of “Faust” at the Royal Opera but Diana Damrau canceled last week due to a reported slipped disc and Lungu was set to take over all performances.

“Faust” stars Michael Fabiano and Erwin Schrott and is conducted by Dan Ettinger. The production runs through May 6, 2019.
