The Latvian National Opera and Ballet has filed a lawsuit against Katharina Wagner over a canceled production of “Parsifal.”

The  board of the Latvian National Opera and Ballet (LNOB) announced the news and said it was seeking to recover damages. The new production, which was scheduled to premiere in October 2025, was canceled by the LNOB three months before the premiere after the company representing the invited director Katharina Wagner and other members of the creative team withdrew from it.

According to the company’s 2025 annual report, it had already invested the funds in the preparation of the production. In order to recover the funds invested in the new production, the LNOB negotiated with cooperation partners until the end of 2025, but they were unsuccessful. The company has not disclosed the amount it lost for the cancelation.

According to July reports, the opera company had received notice from the creative team about withdrawing from the plan. The notice stated that the creative team was unable to implement the production in accordance with its artistic and directing concept.
