Innsbruck Festival of Early Music 2019 Season To Feature 3 New Operas

The Innsbruck Festival of Early Music has announced its 2019 season, which will be its 43rd edition. The season features three rarely performed operas dating between 1657 through 1732.

The season kicks off with Broschi’s “Merope,” which will be led by conductor Alessandro De Marchi. The work had its world premiered in Turin in 1732.

Performance Dates: August 7, 9, 11 (2019)

Handel’s “Ottone, Rè di Germania” will also get three performances led by Fabrizio Ventura. This Handel rarity appeared in London in 1723.

Performance Dates: August 18, 20, 22 (2019)

Closing out the season is Cesti’s “La Dori, overo Lo Schiavo reggio,” which will be directed musically by Ottavio Dantone. This piece actually had its world premiere in Innsbruck.
