Tenor Ian Bostridge and pianist Igor Levit have decided to cancel this evening’s performance of Franz Schubert’s “Winterreise” at the Palau de la Música Catalana, according to the official statement on the company’s website.

The Fundació Orfeó Català-Palau de la Música Catalana informed audience members that the artists have announced their decision to cancel the recital at the Palau in the context of the COVID-19 health circumstances. Bostridge and Levit have expressed their regret over the cancellation of the performance.

The Spanish province of Catalonia has seen a rapid rise in COVID-19 cases over the last few days, which has prompted the authorities to rollback to some of the restrictions that were lifted in June. Spain has officially ended the State of emergency on June 21, 2020.

Spain endured a dramatic health crisis in March and April related to COVID-19, which has taken a heavy toll on its health system. Broader relaxation of measures in June have led to the restart of some performances, including Verdi’s “La Traviata” at the Teatro Real in Madrid.
